Behind the Stone
Double house on Owl Peak Brook, or Hewitt Brook as it is
also known, a dam was built to create an ice pond. Ice was
harvested here during the Winter and stored in the ice house
for use over the hot Summer.
This may also have
been the site of one of the water powered sawmills that was
operated in the village. There was a sawmill at the
ironworks during all the periods of occupation, possibly as
many as three different ones over 170 years.
