Charging the furnace

Duncan Berry "charges" the furnace with assistance from Dennis Middleton. Iron ore, charcoal and lime are used to produce iron.

An iron furnace requires round-the-clock tending to remain in blast. The original Long Pond furnaces would run continuously until winter when water powering the wheels would freeze, forcing operations to halt until the following spring.
